Gun Permits    

      A Vernon County resident must have a permit to purchase a handgun. Residents must apply in person at the Sheriff's Office, 230 W. Cherry, Nevada, Mo. After providing the necessary information a background check will be run through the NCIC and MULES Systems for any type of violation. The process takes approximately 3-5 days. After this period the applicant must come back in to the Sheriff's office to complete the permit to take to the seller. The cost is $10.00.
