Sex Offenders    

      All offenders who reside in Vernon County are required to register with the Vernon County Sheriff's Office within 10 days of moving to the county. The offenders are required to have their prints and photos taken when they register the first time. They are also required to come back in for re-registration every 90 days. If they do not, a first notice is sent giving them 10 days to report in. A second letter will be sent if necessary. Any offender failing to register can be charged with a misdemeanor. The second violation is a felony.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Office maintains a current list of sex offenders who reside in the county. A copy is kept in a confidential location in the dispatcher's office. A copy of the sexual offenders list may be obtained for $5. Anyone requesting a list is required to sign a form stating that the list is for their private use and will not be used for any other purpose.
